Providing customers with a high-quality installation of 3M film products is one of the most important aspects in determining your company’s success. For that reason, Interwest offers a thorough set of installation training courses, ones that we have developed and evolved over 35 years in the industry. Our expert trainers will guide the students through an education process that is both intellectual and hands-on. Our comprehensive install training curriculum covers topics ranging from the inner workings of 3M software to the latest, most innovative installation techniques for the complete portfolio of 3M film products.

3M Automotive Window Film – Basic

Interwest offers a three (3) day comprehensive Automotive Window Film training class that is broken down into 20% classroom activity and 80% hands on installation training.  Hands-on installation training includes prepping, solutions, mixture ratios, trimming and hand cutting.  The training as includes pre-cut kits, heat forming and final inspection.  During the classroom activity, the instructor will educate students on film construction, film selection, plotters and cutting software and how to effectively utilize the marketing materials.

Educational training information and marketing material will be provided to each student.  A wide selection of additional tools will be available for purchase during the training class.  Students will leave with the basic installation fundamentals and a good foundation for them to build upon.  After demonstrating installation proficiency and passing a written test, the successful trainee graduates with factory certification. Training fee includes practice film, practice installation tools and lunches during the training period.

Training Fee: $3,000/person with $1,000 deposit is required to secure a spot, with a $2,000 material stocking credit applied to your account to purchase film and tools after training

3M Paint Protection Film – Basic

Interwest offers a three (3) day comprehensive Paint Protection Film training class that is broken down into 20% classroom activity and 80% hands-on installation training.  Hands on installation training includes prepping, solutions, and mixture ratios.  The training also includes pre-cut kits, bulk installation techniques, complex curves, film repositioning, door edge guard, trimming and cutting, as well as final inspection.  During the classroom activity, the instructor will educate students on film construction, film selection, the 3M Pattern and Solutions Center Software program (for precutting vehicle patterns) and how to effectively utilize the marketing materials.  

Graphtec Plotter set-up and operation will also be covered, and a wide selection of additional tools will be available for purchase during the training class. Students will leave with the basic installation fundamentals and a good foundation for them to build upon. After demonstrating installation proficiency and passing a written test, the successful trainee graduates with factory certification. Training fee includes practice film, practice installation tools and lunches during the training period.

3M Paint Protection Film – Advanced (Basic training completion or acceptable experience is required)

Interwest offers a one (1) day hands-on installation training course for installers who have already completed basic training and who have significant experience installing professionally. An individual focus with each student is discussed before attending the class to better understand what techniques or areas that might be a current struggle to concentrate on.  Some of the most common topics include installation efficiency, speed, full front and full vehicle coverage, custom bulk installation and minimizing installation defects and contamination. Training fee includes practice film, practice installation tools and lunches during the training period.

Interwest offers either a one (1) day or two (2) day hands-on installation training course designed to expose the trainee to the basics of sun control window film installation on residential and commercial windows. Students will leave with the basic installation fundamentals and a good foundation for them to build upon.  Training fee includes practice film, practice installation tools and lunches during the training period.  (Note: This is not factory certification training.)

Interwest offers either a one (1) day or two (2) day hands-on installation training course designed to expose the trainee to the basics of security window film installation on residential and commercial windows. You will also learn how to install window film attachment systems. Students will leave with the basic installation fundamentals and a good foundation for them to build upon.  Training fee includes practice film, practice installation tools and lunches during the training period.  (Note: This is not factory certification training.)

3M Fasara Glass Finishes Decorative Film

Interwest offers either a one (1) day or two (2) day hands-on installation training course designed to expose the trainee to the basics of decorative window film installation on residential and commercial windows. Students will leave with the basic installation fundamentals and a good foundation for them to build upon.  Training fee includes practice film, practice installation tools and lunches during the training period.  (Note: This is not factory certification training.)

3M DI-NOC Architectural Finishes

Interwest offers either a one (1) day or two (2) day hands-on installation training course designed to expose the trainee to the handling, cutting, and installation of DI-NOC Architectural Finishes. You will learn how to prepare substrates for installation and wrap doors, walls (with inside and outside corners), columns, and other common surfaces. Students will leave with the basic installation fundamentals and a good foundation for them to build upon.  Training fee includes practice film, practice installation tools and lunches during the training period.  (Note: This is not factory certification training.)

Meet Our Trainers

Todd is located in our Denver office has been installing Automotive Window Film and Paint Protection Film for 20+ years and serves as the VP of Automotive for Interwest. Todd brings a wealth of knowledge and technical experience to the classroom from his previous daily installation and experience as a shop manager prior to Interwest. Over the last 15 years Todd has trained 1000+ students in automotive film installation, both in the US and around the world. He has built a team of trainers that are world class in their skills and abilities to assist new people entering this industry.

Ted is located in our Denver office and is a trainer for both Automotive Window Film and Paint Protection Film. He is also an expert on Graphtec plotters and 3M’s pattern software. Ted has 20+ years of application experience that has given him a wide band of knowledge with installation techniques and film properties. I hope you get the pleasure of working with Ted on any of our 3M films and software, you may just realize why he carries some unique nick names!

Pedro is located in our Los Angeles office and has been in the window film industry since 2009. He is passionate about window film installation and has a mastery for Crystalline installations. Pedro enjoys working on different types of vehicles and has worked at or owned various window tint shops throughout Southern California, having experience in both dealership and retail business. He has expertise in Paint Protection Film installation as well, with over 12 years in the industry in total.

Clay is located in our Chicago office and was first introduced to the window film industry in 1999 after taking a part time job at a tint and car audio shop. He quickly found a passion for the film industry and decided to make it a lifelong career. Clay is an expert trainer for Automotive Window Film and Paint Protection Film, as well as software solutions. Having been a trainer for 10+ years, Clay is well versed in application techniques, product knowledge, software, and plotter operation.

Ryan is located in our Seattle office and has been in the automotive industry since 2012, with a focus on installing Automotive Window Film and Paint Protection Film since 2016. Ryan is passionate about film installation across the board whether it is vinyl, PPF or AWF. He has worked for various window tint shops throughout the Seattle area, and has experience in both dealership and retail film business. Ryan is constantly trying to learn new installation techniques and always loves getting the chance to install film with other installers.

Dennis is located in our Los Angeles office and has spent nearly 37 years in the window film industry. He operated many years as a shop owner, learning installation techniques and best business practices. Dennis joined Interwest in 2008 and moved to the sales & distribution side, he is primarily focused on sun control, safety and decorative window film training. As the West Coast Commercial Manager, he assists with some of the industry’s largest window film projects, securing large energy incentives/rebates, including working with architects, property managers, ESCO’s and conversing with utility agencies.
